3 tips to regain the color of faded or worn garments

No one wants to see their favorite clothes look overgrown or worn out over time, so they have to be abandoned. In reality, you don’t necessarily have to dispose of faded clothes: there are tricks you can use to turn them back to their original appearance.

The secret lies in small changes: short washes and cold water. According to a recent study published in a trade journal, fabrics rub against each other and lose more color pigment during long washes.

In addition, the warmer the water, the more the fibers swell, which contributes to the loss of color and greater wear of the garment.

Below we present 3 tips on how to recover the color of washed-out or worn garments.

1. Saltwater Tower

Fill a bucket with cold water, add ice if possible. Add a handful of salt and stir well.

Submerge the garment in the water for about 20 minutes, then rinse and let it dry in a shaded, well-ventilated area.

2. Potato Trick

Immerse the discolored garment in a pot of water. Bring it to a boil and add some previously peeled potatoes.

Turn off the heat and wait about 10 minutes, then let it cool, squeeze it out and wash normally.

3. Makeup with laurel and baking soda

Add 3 tablespoons of baking soda and 10 bay leaves to a bucket of warm water. Soak the discolored item in the solution for 20 minutes, then rinse.

Now that you know what the three tips are to restore the color of your faded clothes, try to put them into practice so that you don’t have to give up your favorite clothes.
