Yes, you read that right! You can grow pineapples in water, from the comfort of your own home. This method is quite simple and does not require a lot of space or extensive horticultural knowledge. Getting Started
- Choosing the pineapple: The first step is to choose a healthy pineapple. Be sure to choose a pineapple with green leaves that are fresh and firm. Avoid pineapples with yellow or brown leaves, as they may be unhealthy or too ripe.
- Removing the crown: The next step is to remove the crown of the pineapple. Hold the pineapple with one hand and twist the crown with the other hand until it comes off the fruit. Try to leave the crown intact as this is the part that will grow in the water.
- Preparing the crown: Remove the lower leaves of the crown to expose the stem. Remove about 1 to 2 centimeters of the leaves from the bottom. This will encourage the growth of the roots.
Growing pineapples in water
- Inserting the crown into water: Take a glass or jug and fill it with water. Place the prepared crown in the water so that the lower part of the stem is submerged. Be careful not to let the leaves touch the water.
- Providing sunlight: Place the jar or container in a sunny place. Pineapples need a lot of sunlight. Therefore, place them in a place where they receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.
- Water change: Change the water every 2-3 days to keep it fresh and prevent the growth of bacteria or mold.
- Root growth: In about 2-3 weeks, you will notice that small roots are growing out of the lower part of the stem. Once the roots are about 3 to 4 centimeters long, it’s time to plant the pineapple in the soil.
Transplanting pineapple
- Pot Preparation: Take a pot that is at least 12 inches wide and has drainage holes at the bottom. Fill the pot with a well-draining soil mix.
- Planting the pineapple: Plant the pineapple in the center of the pot. Be sure to bury the roots and stem all the way to the base of the leaves.
- Watering: Water the pineapple thoroughly after planting. Make sure the soil is moist but not wet.
- Caring for the pineapple:Place the pot in a sunny spot and water it regularly. Pineapples need plenty of sunlight and water to grow well.
