3 technique to tell if an egg is fresh or rotten

After the expiration date, eggs smell very unpleasant and are no longer suitable for consumption. However, it is difficult to know when you can stop eating them. In fact, the best before date (DLC) or expiration date is certainly a valuable clue.

1 – THE SMELL TEST TO KNOW IF AN EGG IS STILL GOOD

This method is a classic and requires no equipment other than a nose that can smell odors (a technique that isn’t effective on a stuffy nose day). Smell the egg and note the characteristic sulfur smell of rotten eggs. If you don’t feel anything, it means there is no risk. It can be eaten!

If you still have doubts, break open the shell, collect the egg on a plate or in a bowl and sniff it. If you don’t smell anything, it’s okay. Otherwise, throw it away.

2 – WE RELY ON NOISE

Place an egg near your ear, shake it, and listen carefully. If you don’t hear anything, everything is fine. You can have a hard-boiled egg, fried egg, poached egg or scrambled egg without any risk to your health! On the other hand, if you hear a sound of sloshing liquid, that’s not a good sign. It is better to avoid consumption. The use limit is certainly clearly exceeded, no matter what the label says about optimal use…

3 – DIVE INTO THE WATER

It is a technique that has been known since time immemorial and is so impressive that no egg can lie to it. Prepare a large container of fresh water and let’s get started! Dip the egg and watch its reaction:

It flows directly: it is fresh and can be consumed without any problem.
It floats hopelessly to the surface: it clearly shows you that you have forgotten it and that you had better avoid eating it.
It flows but takes time: it is still possible to use it in a preparation with cooking, but you must avoid consuming it raw.
On the other hand, you can safely add it to a cake or an omelette.
