Not all eggs can be consumed and not only for reasons of expiry or damage to the shell. Find out why.

WHY SOME EGGS CAN’T BE EATEN
Generally, some types of this food cannot be consumed if they have reached their expiry date or if they are visually damaged or dirty. However, in some cases, they are not safe to cook.

This is the case, for example, of unpasteurized ones which could contain harmful bacteria such as salmonella , which could cause foodborne infections. If the eggs have a broken shell or cracks they should not be consumed because they could be contaminated by external bacteria.

They must be stored at room temperature for a long period, especially in hot environments they may have developed bacteria and therefore are not particularly suitable for consumption.

If the egg emits an unpleasant odor or has an abnormal appearance , it is best not to eat it. To reduce the risk of foodborne infections, eggs should be cooked completely, until the yolk and white appear solid.

The above discussion applies to different types of eggs. However, there are some eggs that cannot be eaten for other reasons. Let’s see what they are and the reason linked to the possibility for them not to be consumed.

The Type That Should Never Be Eaten
Have you ever heard of turkey eggs? Well, this type of raw material can be eaten. They have brown specks and appear slightly larger than chicken eggs. Their membrane and shell are thicker. Their flavor is very good.

However, despite these characteristics that make them very attractive, turkey eggs are not routinely consumed , much less put on the market.

The reason for this is to be found in the scarcity of the raw material which makes it particularly rare. In fact, a turkey is only able to lay one egg a week which, compared to one egg a day for chickens, is very little.

The limited production of the turkey product prevents its mass consumption . Furthermore, being larger and with a denser egg white, they may not be used in all preparations.

That said, turkey eggs are edible but not marketed due to their limited availability which makes them particularly expensive.

This prevents its massive use. If you get the chance to try them, however, they can be eaten just like chicken ones and stored in the refrigerator . Their consumption is not recommended for those who are allergic to this food, just as happens with chicken ones.
